Gala Bingo Bemoans Fate Of Hundred Bingo Clubs
Although Gala Bingo registered an annual profit it expressed concerns about the repercussions of smoking ban and removal of profitable gaming machine.
The Gala Bingo is a private betting and gaming organisation. It will press the government to abolish VAT on bingo related products considering the mood of the general market. The withdrawal of certain types of gaming machines and exorbitant increase in duties on Casino will have a negative impact on casino operators.
Neil Goulden, its chief executive opined that the existence of 100 bingo clubs across the country was at stake. However he was optimistic about Gala Bingo surviving the crisis. But if the market further declines then they would have to do some rethinking.
Gala Bingo released its annual report. It claims to be the first major private business to follow the recommendations of the Walker Committee as regards transparency. Facts and figures were not disheartening but Goulden admitted that the year had been challenging although new outlets had been opened. By Easter it hopes to set up another 360 in Italy and has now set eyes on China. The focus will now also be on online bingo products.
Gala Bingo Winner to have a Wonderful Christmas
National bingo have revealed that another UK jackpot has gone to two lucky bingo players, the total jackpot was for an amount of £90,000 and a fifty year old Heaton Norris resident who was playing bingo at the Gala Bingo club in Stockport walked away from the club £45,000 richer than when she arrived.
The other half of the winnings was claimed by a player in Bradford who also called full house on 40 balls and got an equal share in the prize.
The manager of the Stockport Gala Bingo Club told National bingo that the woman was absolutely over the moon when she was told just how much she had won, she was a bit shaken, but managed to tell Sean Connolly what a lovely surprise the windfall was and that she and her family were going to enjoy a really marvellous Christmas with the money. It is not certain what she will be doing with the left over funds, but we are sure that she will put it to good use.
The National Bingo has released figures that show that in 2006 the UK Bingo Jackpot was won by three players in Gala Bingo Stockport and that resulted in prizes worth £170,000.
Associated Newspapers Set to Launch Online Bingo Site
Metro newspaper is one of the most popular free newspapers on earth; it is read by people in 13 British cities. Associated Newspapers founded Metro in 1999 and it is now the fourth most widely distributed newspaper in the UK, with 1.1 million copies of Metro being handed to British commuters on a daily basis.
The Metro website enjoys 1.8 million visitors per month so it stands to reason then, that with this kind of following, they should develop an online bingo playing site.
Together with the ever popular and successful development skills of the Gibraltar based developer, St Minvar, online bingo and poker will be promoted through the Metro on behalf of Associated Newspapers. The bingo and poker games will be accessed through the Metro website and when considering that already 1.8 million people are visiting this site already, they have a pretty good start for recruiting online bingo playing members. The Sun newspaper online bingo site is a huge success story so we shall be watching with a careful eye to see what becomes of Metro, I have a strange feeling that it will probably enjoy the same kind of success as The Sun Bingo.
Mecca Bingo (Rank) Update
Prominent in the news lately has been the ever spiralling drop in the Rank (Mecca Bingo) groups share prices, coupled together with the fact that there have bee rumours and speculation regarding who was buying into the group.
The fact that Harrah’s (from across the big pond) have been stalking the bingo group mercilessly has also led to a drop in faith and ongoing drops in their share price throughout the majority of 2007.
The good news is that in the last two weeks, with the injection of share capital from Genting and the fact that the company blocked a move on Rank from a local bingo company, the share price has been on an upward surge and it appears as though the company’s stocks have increased to the tune of 40%. This is a very good indicator of the future of things to come not only for Mecca Bingo, but also for the bingo industry as a whole. Positive sentiments in share trading, kind of indicate that not every land based UK bingo group is going to go down the toilet in a whoosh just because of the smoking ban and unfair taxation issues. There is obviously a call for the product and if gaming companies didn’t believe there was a future in the land based bingo industry, they would not be interested in buying in to it.
Bingo Sponsors Local Irish Football Side
Rehab Bingo has entered the sports endorsement arena with a recent sponsorship deal made with Bray Wanderers to support the team by becoming its main sponsor, through the two next Eircom League of Ireland series.
It was only a matter of time, before two of the most loved leisure pursuits in the British Isles would join forces, bingo in endorsement and support and football promoting bingo by wearing bingo colours.
The launch takes place on the 12th December which is Wednesday morning at the Carlisle Grounds. At the launch the sponsorship details will be announced together with the unveiling of the new Bray – RehabBingo official players’ kit. The face of Rehab Bingo, model, Glenda Gilson will be present at the launch to assist with the handing over of the sponsorship and kit and help one an all in their celebration of the new partnership.
It would be nice to think that perhaps out of this a few more of the .com and .co.uk online bingo operators will also sponsor some of the smaller more local football teams, it will certainly earn them some mileage and the smaller teams are always looking for help for sports development. I like the way that the “face of bingo on the backs of footballers shirts” sounds!
Open Air Bingo, the Latest Innovation to Combat the Smoking Ban
I was wondering when bingo club owners would start to come up from their apathetic bemoaning of the financial damage that the smoking ban has done to them, and start thinking of ways to enjoy the game of bingo and still be able to include their smoking members.
Finally someone has begun thinking outside of the box and the Flutters Bingo Club in Rushden has taken that leap of faith and is about to provide nicer facilities for its smoking members by giving them an alfresco bingo experience.
The Flutters Bingo Club is situated in picturesque East Northamptonshire, and Mr. Tyler, one of the club’s part owners has announced that the board of the bingo club are about to develop their outdoors area, by the subtle placing of seating and pot-plants, together with some slot machines to cater specifically for their smoking members. He says that although the smoking ban has impacted on their profits, by making the bingo and slots available to smokers who can sit comfortably in their own attractive area, they will not need to rush outside for a puff between bingo games, so they can order a drink and have a cigarette while playing the slots.
Online Bingo Win Brings Woman to Tears
A huge progressive jackpot of £107,897, the first Progressive jackpot prize ever to be won playing online bingo on `Full House Bingo’ promptly brought the winner to tears, and what a wonderful early Christmas Present for the online bingo player?
The huge jackpot was won by Rosa D and she couldn’t tell her husband right away as she was in complete shock over the win. She says that she was crying and shaking and it took her until one o’clock to work up the courage to tell her husband about it.
She is not sure yet what she is going to do with the money but her daughters’ university fees are uppermost on her list as she has just qualified as a midwife. She told us that as soon as she told her husband about the huge bingo win he started spending the money in his head, but they are going to have to wait and see what else they will use the money for.
One thing is for sure for the family this bingo win is going to ensure that they have a very blessed Christmas.
Rosa D says that she loves playing online bingo and now `Full House Bingo’ is her favourite game, I think that stands to reason, don’t you?

The Online Bingo Oscars
The “Online Bingo Oscars” are run annually by Which Bingo and that time of year has come around again where online bingo players themselves are asked to vote for the online bingo sites that they enjoy the most.
So the search is definitely on for the best online bingo site of the year. Also recently launched is the inaugural `UK New Online Bingo Site of the Year Award’ and this prestigious award is open to any online bingo site in the UK that was launched during 2007.
Both of these awards focus upon pay for play bingo sites, the software provider is irrelevant however the criteria for the award does state that the bingo site must offer bingo in GB sterling. Polls to vote for your favourite online bingo site will be open until the 31st December 2007, so if you have a favourite bingo site and you believe that it deserves to be awarded one of these prizes, all you have to do is give it your vote. The site with the most votes at the end of the poll will be the winner of the award and the winning announcement will be made in January 2008. Which Bingo is one of the leading experts for the online bingo industry.
The Embattled Rank Bingo Sells Share
It has been big in the news lately how land based bingo clubs have been suffering losses hand over fist. With many of the land based bingo clubs or their holding companies blaming the new gaming act, the new non smoking laws, ridiculous and disparate taxation and in some instances even the fact that online bingo has become so popular, for keeping patrons from visiting land based games.
It appears that even when patrons do play at land based clubs, all of these factors do come into play and patrons are just not spending the kind of money at the land based bingo clubs that is required to keep them profitable.
To this end, the embattled operator, Rank has been under pressure to sell to companies such as Harrah’s but has managed to hold out and has decided to sell a 10% stake in the company to Genting, which is the Malaysian group that owns Stanley Casino’s. The sale of shares should give the company the cash injection it needs to gear it in the right direction to offset the mounting losses being experienced by their land based bingo business, and move with the times to find a solution to its drop in profitability.
