JackpotJoy Bingo wins Egaming Award
JackpotJoy Bingo recently won an Egaming Award as the Bingo Operator of the Year 2007. The award was given to JackpotJoy in London, and they are considered to be the largest UK bingo operator, they came in ahead of stiff competitors such as Gala and Foxy Bingo.
JackpotJoy Bingo boasts a membership of 1.7 million and they have to provide this membership with innovative entertainment and non-stop bingo. Not an easy task, but they manage to provide more than eighty different games; these include slots, roulette and blackjack as well as online bingo and many other forms of entertainment.
The JackpotJoy affiliate programme is hugely successful with affiliates benefiting from competitions and incentives together with games and marketing tools, creatively designed and made available to them to use on their web sites by JackpotJoy Bingo’s development team. This has the effect of making the affilliate sites innovative and exciting and increases their earnings substantially.
JackpotJoy Bingo is indeed a worthy recipient of this award and we wish them even more good fortune for the future. Just as an aside, JackpotJoy bingo has also recently broken into the Spanish market and launched a sister site called Juega Tu Suerte, what ever that might mean, we wish them all the best too!
Bingo Caller of the Year
The Bingo caller of the year competition is hotting up for the final heats which are due to take place in London on 25th November this year. This Promises to be a competition of epic proportions, with all the winners from the last set of Regional Heats up on stage showing off their Bingo calling prowess.
Funnily, one of the finalists, the Mecca Bingo caller Robert Willard was the link caller for all of the Mecca Millionaire winners’ games. He is joined on stage in the finals by five other bingo callers, four of them from Mecca Bingo clubs country wide, one from Buckingham Bingo and another from Gala Bingo. So it looks as though Mecca Bingo have the odds stacked for them to win. I have read about some of their training programmes and it seems that the bingo callers representing the other clubs have got some pretty sticky competition, when it comes to the Mecca trained callers.
The title is for the 2007 NGBA Caller of the year and is a pretty prestigious title, with a host of great prizes and publicity for the winner. I would say that entering this competition would definitely be called a career broadening exercise. Unfortunately the NGBA site does not yet say where the competition is going to take place, but we will keep you updated.
Will the £1 Million Mecca Bingo win clash be settled?
Recently having reported on the dispute between the latest Mecca Bingo £1 Million winner and her sisters-in-law and sister who had a verbal agreement that if she won, they would share the prize, shortly after which the winner reneged on this, resulting in her partners hiring counsel to appeal to the Scottish Courts in a late night emergency session. The courts ordered an interdict to stop Mecca Bingo paying the woman and also freezing her bank account.
Falling Profits In Major Bingo Groups
Together with recent reports of profits falling for the Mecca Bingo group (Rank), we have uncovered that they are not the only major bingo group to have recently suffered loss of profits to such a degree that are almost certain that the non smoking ban (amongst other causes) is responsible for the losses, Top Ten Bingo has also joined these ranks.
The new gaming laws , while making the industry more openand protecting players, was looked forward to with great intent by the industry only to be thwarted with the enactment of the US Gambling Enforcement Act that was introduced last October , add to that the House of Lords vetoing the plans for a super casino and the smoking ban, created the grounds for a witches brew of conflict within the gaming and bingo industry, that is having a massive impacton profitability and sustainability for bingo operators in the United Kingdom.
These major bingo operators are stating emphatically that their financial predicament is due to the new laws and the smoking ban, they say that it does not matter what kind of systems are in place to assist the smokers that attend the clubs, as soon as they get a break they all run outside to have a quick puff instead of staying put and playing on the gaming machines. Of course there is also the matter that many of the smokers have joined the trend to playing online bingo.

Gala Bingo’s New Advertising Agency
Gala Bingo and Coral group have the Red Brick Road Advertising Agency to handle all the advertising requirements across the entire group. Initially they were appointed in December 2006 but they have only been working for the clubs on a project basis, but their appointment was made on a permanent basis earlier in 2007.
The promulgation of the Gambling Act has been instrumental in opening up marketing opportunities for the gaming industry that were never before possible, and a s a result of this the gaming industry is going to need to make full use of professional consultations with advertising agencies if they are going to stay ahead of the game. This focus will attract some very healthy competition, particularly as the gaming industry is now allowed to advertise on television.
The object of the Gala Bingo campaign will be to promote and expand the appeal of bingo to a larger audience within the modern leisure sector.
This campaign will first appear in Scotland and will be going National by January 2008. The campaign is going to include TV commercials, sheet posters, radio and national press with the campaign line “Gala Bingo. We say more play” reinforcing bingo as a playful way to spend your time.

Mecca Bingo Stocks Slide
Rank who are the owners of Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos had to spend a second day concurrently, watching their stocks slide. This is because stock analysts have lowered their rating on the Rank stock and on the first day the stock slid by 19 percent with the second day following suit at 18 percent.
The blame for the lowering in the rating on the stock has been seen again to be blamed on the smoking ban, the effects that the ban seems to be having on the bingo industry and the fact that most bingo players are mostly perceived to be heavy smokers. It is believed that heavy smokers are either not playing as many games as they used to, because they are too busy outside of the bingo club, smoking or staying away from the clubs altogether. As a result there was a drop on revenue in the six weeks following the smoking ban and accordingly, Rank would be expected to see lower profits. However it is believed that the smoking ban in not the end of the problems for this company
Because of the change in regulations and the new gaming act, Rank is not only allowed to have four fruit machines that pay high jackpots on anyone site, and a combination of both of these problems has been blamed for the lack of faith in and the lowering of ratings of rank stock.
