Bingo in Iraq, who would have believed it?

Although bingo is loved and played all over the world in its various shapes and forms, I was very surprised to learn that the game of bingo is extremely popular in Iraq. It is possible that the online bingo craze has had something to do with this popularity. The game of online bingo may have just opened up a world of possibility to many other people around the world too.

Bingo players in Iraq have an exclusive club in Baghdad where they go to drink tea, play bingo and generally escape from their war torn surroundings. Although the club in Baghdad has been in existence since 1924, at that time only foreigners were allowed to become members. But now it has opened its doors to wealthy Iraqis and they love the game.

The Iraqi members of the bingo club are from wealthy, degreed backgrounds and the regular players say that playing bingo allows them to spend time with family and friends whilst playing. It is unfortunate that since the outbreak of war attendance at the club has dropped. But the members who attend say it gives them welcome relief from all the tears that the war is causing.

The Iraqi version of the game includes a bingo caller who calls a mix of English letters with Arabic numbers.
